Job Description:

Job title: Research Analyst EOI 

Context: Established in 2016, Patternmakers is Australia’s research agency dedicated to culture, creativity and community. In high demand, Patternmakers is currently looking to grow its team of analysts, and is looking for new Senior or Junior Research Analysts in a full, part time or casual capacity. 

Purpose of the position:  To conduct research and analysis for Patternmakers clients through the successful delivery of projects and best practice data analysis and communication. 

Location: This role is a predominantly remote working role, and will suit someone who thrives in dynamic, flexible environments.  

Research Analysts will attend face to face meetings, workshops and events at Patternmakers base at Hub Hyde Park, Darlinghurst NSW, along with client sites across Australia (majority of clients are based in Sydney or Melbourne).

Salary: $65-80k pro-rata dependent on experience, plus superannuation and allowances 

Supervisor: Manager, Research and Insights 

Main responsibilities: 

  • Working with the Manager and Managing Director to design and plan client projects, including detailed methodologies 

  • Day-to-day project administration, with support from the Manager, Research and Insights 

  • Conducting fieldwork, including administering surveys, interviews and focus group facilitation  

  • Analysing quantitative and qualitative data, and drafting concise reports  

  • Supporting business development activities, including assisting with developing new products and services 

  • Maintaining technical skills and supporting the Manager and Director to navigate key business risks and regulatory requirements 

  • Working with other team members and collaborating on key administration, content and communications tasks. 

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting miscellaneous issues as they arise. 

Skills and experience: 

  • We’re looking to hire a Senior Research Analyst and a Research Analyst or Junior Research Analyst

  • Senior Research Analysts will have at least 2 years’ experience working in research, excellent technical skills in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and a history of strong academic performance 

  • Junior Research Analysts should have a bachelor’s degree (completed or soon to be graduating) and demonstrate outstanding academic performance, and some experience working in office environments is desirable 

  • Ability to synthesise and present insights in accessible and interesting ways 

  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to write and speak about complex topics in plain English 

  • Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to work independently from home 

  • Excellent problem solving skills and can-do attitude 

  • Ability to skilfully manage client relationships and impeccable professionalism. 

  • Maintenance of The Research Society membership and continuous professional development 

Further information:  

Patterns of working vary around client and sector needs, with team retreats/intensives held quarterly. 

Allowances will be provided for technology expenses and working from home - and you will be responsible for designing and maintaining a home office/workspace that you love, along with your own smart phone, laptop computer and high speed internet. We provide the online software applications you require for your role. 

This role will have a high level of interaction with clients, partners, staff and suppliers during business hours, including school holidays. The general expectation of working hours is 9-5 Monday to Friday but we are open to flexible hours to make time during the week for study or other commitments.
